Member Alert!!!!!!!!!

The Senate Ag Committee included several important provisions in their version of the Farm Bill.  Those provisions include:

  • Ban on packer ownership of livestock for 14 days prior to slaughter
  • Implementation of mandatory country-of-origin labeling
  • Establishment of Office of Special Counsel for Agricultural Competition
  • Directive that USDA define "unreasonable preferences or advantage"
  • Authorization for interstate shipment of state inspected beef
  • In additional, this coming Monday offers an opportunity to include Captive Supply Reform.

However, these issues are not yet won.  The Farm Bill with provisions is expected to go to the Senate Floor on Monday, November 5, 2007.  Our Senators are being lobbied by those entities opposed to increasing competition.  With your help, we can increase competition and level the playing field for U.S. and Nevada producers.  It is in our hands...

Please call your Senator and ask him to support the above provisions in the Farm Bill.
