For Immediate Release

October 03, 2006

Dear NLSA Directors, Membership and Interested Public,

It is with deepest regret that the Nevada Live Stock Association marks the passing of our Chairman, friend, and advocate, HelenChenoweth-Hage. She was killed in a car accident Monday, October 2, 2006, near Tonopah, Nevada. Helen lived larger than life. She was fearless in the face of government tyranny. Where others cowed under the governmental jack-boot she took hold of whatever banner was nearby and with dignity lead the charge for freedom...at whatever the personal cost. It will be said that she was always on the side of right.

Helen was enthusiastically preparing for the next NLSA Director's meeting at the time of her death. She was continuing to carefully orchestrate and implement the demise of government interference into the livestock industry and property rights. She never allowed adversity to dim her sights on the fight for liberty. The recent passing of her husband, Wayne Hage, and her dear sister, both from cancer, took its toll but ever the noble leader, she was pressing on with her agenda which she saw as the only course open to her.

Helen worked tirelessly for legislation such as COOL during her three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives (ID). Among her many accomplishments, none is surpassed by her staunch support of underdog Randy Weaver, of the infamous Ruby Ridge, Idaho, tragedy. Weaver was found innocent. She supported her husband in his charge against the BLM's and Forest Service's use of rules and regulations and sweetheart deals with the environmental community to take rancher's property.

Landmark decisions were made in Hage v. United States that all of us can now enjoy. Here in Nevada, I had the privilege of working with her and Wayne within the NLSA to bring about my dream of stopping cattle impoundment and theft by the BLM and Forest Service here in Nevada. Helen was the think-tank behind the successful Special Grand Jury investigation into the Nevada Department of Agriculture's/Brand Department's unconstitutional collaboration with federal agents to take rancher's cattle without due process of law. Legislation written and submitted by the NLSA was passed, almost unchanged, into law by the Nevada Legislature to stop such unlawful activities in Nevada.

Helen was also at the forefront, leading the Jarbridge Brigade, to stop more governmental interference into public use of a road in Elko county, Nevada. The list of her accomplishments cannot be enumerated here, it is long and distinguished. Let us always remember.

Above all Helen was always the gracious lady, so adept at being our Chairman, we will miss her and Wayne. But make no mistake, this organization is going to prosper. Helen would have it no other way. She has passed the baton and we are in the race. We will go forward carrying the banner of liberty, regretting her passing, but honoring her name. May God bless and keep her.

David Holmgren, Vice-Chairman Nevada Live Stock Association
